What exactly is Drag?

Its history stretches further back into time than you may think - past the Victorians, the Middle Ages and before - historically, it has always been connected to an expression of self, gender and identity. Museum professional Sacha Coward and public historian Sheldon K. Goodman will introduce you to historical drag idols from yore, touching upon Greek mythology, female impersonators, drag kings, onnagata in Japanese theatres to gender fluid pirates who once sailed the Seven Seas!

Joined by performer and current RuPaul's Drag Race star Tia Kofi, we'll explore the lineage of drag, and the people who lived it as part of our ongoing LGBTQ+ history.
